To celebrate one year of Trump making America great again, I wanted to do an homage to the work of the great conservative painter Jon McNaughton who, his website will inform you, is “America’s Painter.” I’m calling this painting “Very Fine People.” I suppose some things such as Trump wearing the Constitution as a diaper might strike some as a bit heavy handed, but I was hoping to emulate Mr. McNaughton’s bold vision of symbolism that will make those with an elementary school level of literacy feel included in the political process.
Wow, that’s pretty heavy and a somewhat cynical post. It must really suck to be a US-citizen these days?
Pretty good. The colours are so strong. And you used just the right people. I mean this is good enough to be a novel cover. Hardcover.
If you are familiar with Mr. Naught-town’s works this is not cynical at all and a brilliant response to what is happening right now to the United States Government. Rick, perhaps you can do another painting of a Rally of pink hat and MeToo protesters in bright and hopeful colors as a response to this?
I do follow his current paintings, but they’re often so ridiculous that parody is difficult, he’s a parody of himself.
