A Waste of Time

I really wish that I could do all the comics like this, since this one took about an hour total to draw, and the one I posted on Friday took approximately 1,767,554 times that long.  (Figure arrived at by randomly mashing keys on my keyboard.  It took me a while.)

I could just do jokes like this, I guess, and I have notebooks full of things like this that I’ve written and haven’t illustrated, but as I’ve gone on with these comics I’ve got less and less interested in cracking jokes and more interesting in my characters.  I still want the comics to be funny, of course, but I’ve got plans for the characters that I’ve been building up for years and I’m starting to look at kind of the short gag strips as being a distraction from the bigger picture.  So, I’ll probably throw in a few now and then, just because I like doing them, but I plan to continue to torture myself by primarily working on big, complicated comics that require skills like drawing and writing, neither of which I had honed to a very high degree when I started doing these comics years ago.  We’ll see where that takes me.
