The penultimate page! Someone here is “sketch”. I’m sure we all wonder who it/they could be. Time to roll “Roll With It” to it’s Friday finish. Join us for the finale, will you?
Wrapping our first storyline up this week: the final three pages begin! Rick the Rabbit wakes up. The morning after. He’s a rock star. But where are his pants? Oh, the suspense.
Page Twelve of Fifteen. Next week is the final three pages. Things start to coast to a climax. Or…post-climax, as this particluar case proves to be.
This is where it gets nice ‘n heady. Sex and boys and curling up on the floor unable to feel one’s knees.
Dave B. instead of Rick writing a commentary again. Hope you didn’t bring the kids to this one. Hope you’d already caught on to the route this story was taking. Is it art? Is it pornography? I’d call it Henry Miller meets the slacker generation. Print comics have long been supporting psuedo-memories like this – slightly embellished reality, a few flourishes, mostly real life. The artist gets to share more than he ever would by veiling it inside a little cartoonist fancifulness, which allows there to be just that little bit of doubt as to what really happened and what didn’t. Most of this story did happen.
Page Nine of Fifteen. Next page coming Monday. Note that all three far right panels are the most graphic of the page. Like it was planned that way :)
Page Seven of Fifteen. Next Page coming Wednesday. Things are heating up! And now money’s coming into play, which Rick the Rabbit needs for rent. Hmmm…predicting bad things, of yes.
Page Six of Fifteen. This is Dave B., filling in for Rick W. today in the blog post section. As impartial third-person commentary, I have to say: I absolutely adore those first three panels. *shiver* And there’s Rick the Rabbit tossing back another one. Notice a theme developing here? Prolly the coolest thing about “ROLL WITH IT” is that you never know where this damn story is heading. There’s an odd tension, an ominousness to it, and yet everything remains, as the story’s title suggests, relaxed and brilliantly downplayed. Being a comic book critic for the past four years allows me to say shit like that.
Okay – Next Page Coming Monday! Everything on time! *pant, pant* Whee!
